New to LARP?

Curious about Erindor LARP, but new to LARP? You are very welcome!

You do not need years of experience, a perfect costume, or deep knowledge of our world to join. Erindor LARP is built around immersion, story, atmosphere, and collaboration. We are happy to help new participants find their place in the game.

What is LARP?

LARP stands for Live Action Roleplaying.

In simple terms: you physically step into a fictional world and portray a character. You dress the part, speak and act as your character and respond to what happens around you.

It is part theatre, part game, part improvisation, and part shared storytelling.

At Erindor LARP, this means entering a dark fantasy world of old magic, dangerous roads, strange creatures, political tension and personal choices.

Do I need experience?

No, you can join Erindor as a first-time LARPer. We do expect participants to be respectful, open to roleplay and willing to learn, but you do not need to know everything before your first event.

We will help you understand:

  • what role fits you best
  • what kind of costume you need
  • how the basic rules work
  • how safety works during the game
  • how to prepare for the weekend
  • where to ask questions

The most important things are attitude, communication and a willingness to play together.

What kind of LARP is Erindor?

Erindor is a small-scale dark fantasy LARP in Flanders, Belgium.

Our events focus on:

  • immersive roleplay
  • personal stories
  • meaningful choices
  • atmosphere and tension
  • character growth
  • danger, mystery, and consequences

We are not mainly built around massive battles or complicated rule systems. Combat can happen, but story, atmosphere, and character interaction are at the heart of the game.

Erindor can be intense, emotional, frightening, funny, beautiful, chaotic, dramatic, and deeply personal. Sometimes all in the same weekend, which can make it an unforgettable experience.

Is Erindor beginner-friendly?

Yes, but we are honest about what kind of game we run.

Erindor is beginner-friendly in the sense that we help new people get started, explain what they need to know, and support them in finding a suitable role.

At the same time, Erindor is an 18+ dark fantasy event. The story may include fear, danger, violence, moral pressure, suspicion, loss, discrimination between fictional groups, and emotionally intense scenes.

You are not expected to be “perfect” at roleplay. But you are expected to communicate clearly, respect boundaries, and understand the difference between in-game conflict and out-of-game intent.

How can I join?

There are three main ways to participate.

Adventurer

As an Adventurer, you create your own character and step into the main story. Adventurers often receive personal plotlines, difficult choices, danger, emotional consequences, and chances for character growth.

This is a good choice if you want to play your own character and be actively involved in the unfolding story.

Civilian

As a Civilian, you play someone who lives in the fantasy world. This could be a shopkeeper, guard, craftsperson, local, priest, official, traveller, wandering bard, or another grounded role.

This is a good choice if you enjoy social roleplay, atmosphere, and helping make the world feel alive.

Adversary

As an Adversary, you help bring danger to life. You may play monsters, bandits, bounty hunters, goblins, cultists, soldiers, or other threats.

This is a more active and physical role, often involving combat, fear, darkness, and high-intensity scenes. It is a high-trust role focused on safety, control, and creating memorable moments for others.

Which role should I choose for my first event?

  • If you want your own personal character and story, choose Adventurer.
  • If you want a guided role inside the world and enjoy social roleplay, choose Civilian.
  • If you enjoy physical roleplay, combat, monsters, ambushes, and creating tension for others, choose Adversary.

Still unsure? Contact us or join our Discord. We are happy to help you choose.

Do I need a costume?

Yes, but it does not need to be perfect.

For your first event, a simple but fitting costume is enough. Think medieval, fantasy, travelling clothes, layers, belts, cloaks, tunics, dresses, skirts, shirts, trousers, leather, wool, linen, or natural colours.

Avoid clearly modern clothing where possible, such as bright sneakers, printed T-shirts, jeans, modern jackets, visible logos, or plastic-looking accessories.

You can improve your costume over time. Nobody expects your first outfit to look like a movie production.

For Adversaries, the organization usually provides specific costume pieces, props, or monster gear depending on the role.

Do I need weapons?

Only if your role needs them. All weapons used at Erindor must be LARP-safe and approved by the organization. Never bring real weapons, sharp blades, metal weapons, or anything unsafe for combat.

If you are unsure, ask us before the event.

What do I need to bring?

This depends on the event and location, but usually you should bring:

  • your costume
  • warm and comfortable clothing
  • sturdy shoes or boots
  • sleeping gear, including a tent and / or camping material
  • personal medication
  • toiletries
  • a water bottle
  • snacks if needed
  • a flashlight
  • weather-appropriate clothing
  • any approved props or weapons for your character

For outdoor events, you may need your own tent unless indoor sleeping is offered separately. Always check the specific event page for food, sleeping arrangements, location details, and extra options.

What if I am nervous?

That is completely normal.

Many people are nervous before their first LARP. You might worry about roleplaying, not knowing enough lore, having the wrong costume, doing something awkward, or not knowing anyone yet.

You do not have to perform perfectly. You just have to show up with a possitive attitude, respect the game and the people around you, and be willing to participate.

If the idea of a full-weekend event feels intimidating, you are not alone. Please contact us before signing up. We can help you find a role that fits your comfort level and where possible, allows you to take breaks or step away from the game early if needed. Some roles are easier to move in and out of the story than others. We are happy to help you find a place in the game that feels exciting, but not overwhelming.

LARP is something you learn by doing, and we are happy to help you take that first step.

Do I need to know all the lore?

No, you do not need to read every page of worldbuilding before joining. We will give you the information you need for your role.

Of course, if you enjoy reading lore, there is plenty to discover. But for your first event, it is more important to understand your own character, the basic setting, and the practical information.

Is there combat?

Yes, but not everyone has to fight.

Combat at Erindor is cinematic and safety-focused. We use LARP-safe weapons and expect controlled fighting at all times. The goal is not to hit hard or win at all costs. The goal is to create exciting, believable, and safe scenes together.

If you do not want combat, tell us when choosing your role.

Safety and boundaries

Safety matters, Erindor LARP uses safety rules, briefings, and clear communication to help participants play intense scenes responsibly. If something crosses a real boundary, you can always speak up and reach out to us.

In-game conflict is part of the story. Out-of-game harassment, intimidation, discrimination, or unsafe behaviour is not accepted.

We ask everyone to help create a game where dark themes can exist within a respectful and trustworthy environment.

Can I come alone?

Yes, you do not need to bring a group. Many participants join alone, especially when trying out a new LARP for the first time and go home with a bunch of new friends. 😉

Joining the Discord before the event is a good way to ask questions, meet people, and get a better feeling for the community.
